SUNY New Paltz Faculty/Staff Contemplative Group

The Faculty/Staff Contemplative Group was established at SUNY New Paltz in the Fall of 2012 as a space for faculty and staff to come together around a shared interest in contemplative practices and perspectives in their work and their lives. The group meets twice a month during the academic year and attracts a diverse range of faculty, staff and administrators from across departments, programs and services. The gatherings are inclusive, drawing on a broad range of contemplative traditions, ancient and modern, sacred and secular. At each gathering, one of the participants leads a meditation practice and a second participant guides a discussion or activity that explores applications of contemplative practices in their work. A central goal of the Faculty/Staff Contemplative Group is to support individuals as they seek to integrate mindful principles and practices into their roles on campus. Over the past eight years the group has co-sponsored conferences, and offered day-long retreats and introductory meditation sessions.
